THE SAFE ACT - EXPLAINED:

According to the Humane Society, in some regions it is reported that more than half of horses sold at rural auctions are purchased by "kill buyers" to be sent to slaughterhouses outside the United States, without a chance of finding new homes or rescue. A terrible and traumatic journey, many die in cramped trucks on the way, and many suffer multiple blows and remain conscious through dismemberment due to inadequate methods.

The SAFE Act is a bi-partisan bill (S775 | HR1661) with support from 83% of Americans. It would end these atrocities, only allowing for Rescue, Rehome, or Rainbow Bridge (veterinary euthanasia). The Bill has 230 House cosponsors (more than half the House) and 8 Senate cosponsors as of 5-17-26. Read the reports: Humane Society & Animals' Angels State of Horse Slaughter.

In breaking news, on May 22, 2026 the U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee officially advanced legislation by a vote of 34–30 — passing the Van Drew-Titus Amendment to the Build America 250 Act, incorporating key SAFE (Save America’s Forgotten Equines) Act provisions that would prohibit the transport of equines intended for slaughter for human consumption.

It must now proceed to the full House floor for a vote before being taken up by the Senate. Find a detailed update HERE.

Know someone who would do this too?

The more people who message their Senators, the better the bill's chances. Share it with 1 person—that's all it takes to help us reach every state.
