Big John

Mule

August 1994

A Little Bit About Me...
Big John, our sweet elderly mule, was rescued by a kind neighbor who noticed he was losing weight despite living on a lush pasture. She fed him, cared for his hooves, and eventually brought him to our Sanctuary! At around 30 to 35 years old, Big John has arthritis, cataracts, and dental issues, so we chop his hay just for him! Despite it all, he’s settling in well with plenty of love and care.

Read the full rescue story HERE:

Big John is a very picky eater. If you change ONE THING, such as move his bowl or mix together two types of hay pellets (both of which he separately likes), he will refuse to eat. He's very cat-like—always watching and acting very timid but then will zoom right by you! But once you put a halter on him, he'll let you kiss his face and scratch his body.
