We got a message from Healing Hearts Animal Rescue & Refuge in Arizona about a Belgian draft horse at a nearby sale barn. She was thin, possibly pregnant, and in desperate need of care.
Straight to the Experts
After picking her up, we headed directly to Weems & Stephens Equine Hospital for a full workup. The good news? Nothing too concerning came up!
Not Pregnant, Just in Need of TLC
One of the biggest questions we had—is she pregnant? We’re happy to report she’s not. She simply needs to gain some weight, get a proper hoof trim, and receive the care and love she’s been missing.
Meet Althea—a Name that Means Healing
Healing Hearts named her Althea, meaning “healing,” in honor of their beloved Athena who recently passed. It’s a perfect name for a horse with a fresh start ahead.
A Stop on Her Journey Home
While her time at our Sanctuary is short, our hearts are full knowing we were able to offer her a safe place to rest and recover before her next chapter in Arizona.
