One quiet afternoon, panic set in when we found Izzy lying on the ground outside the barns. Although she got up quickly, she began pawing at the ground—a telltale sign of colic, or a painful stomach upset in horses. We gave her pain medication right away and rushed her to the hospital.
Emergency Care & Rest
At the hospital, the team performed a full workup and discovered Izzy was dehydrated. She was admitted immediately and placed on IV fluids and stall rest, with 24/7 monitoring. After nearly a week of care, she was discharged and headed back home.
Back to the Hospital
But just 30 minutes after arriving home, we spotted Izzy lying down again in the pasture. We waited patiently as she stood up, administered more medicine, and sent videos to our vet for advice. He recommended waiting a bit longer for the meds to take effect before bringing her back in. She calmly loaded into the trailer for another hospital visit. This time, bloodwork revealed a mild infection, and Izzy began a round of antibiotics to help her recover fully.
Izzy’s Back & Bright as Ever!
After another week at the hospital, Izzy returned home once more—this time bright-eyed, happy, and feeling so much better. We’re incredibly relieved and grateful for her resilience, and for the incredible care she received!
