When Horses Can’t Sweat
After noticing signs of overheating, our vet ran tests to rule out Cushing’s disease. The diagnosis? Likely anhidrosis—a condition where a horse loses the ability to sweat. Since horses rely on sweat to cool down, this was a serious concern.
Exploring Acupuncture
Our vet recommended trying acupuncture—a treatment that may not work for every horse, but offered hope. Alongside a sweat-inducing supplement, Yosemite Sam and Wonder began a new care plan.
Relief at Last
Just one acupuncture session in, both horses showed promising signs of recovery. They started to sweat in small amounts. A major win! As a result, they’re now regulating their body temperatures much better, even in the summer heat.
