Cola, our sweet donkey rescue, wasn’t acting like herself. She began refusing food and repeatedly laying down—clear signs that she was uncomfortable and not feeling well.
Straight to the Hospital
Given her recent medical history, the team didn’t hesitate. Cola was rushed to the hospital so veterinarians could take a closer look and intervene quickly.
A Familiar (& Serious) Culprit
Exams revealed a severe colon impaction—the same issue Cola had been hospitalized for just last week. Because she hadn’t been eating, her triglyceride levels had also climbed dangerously high.
To address everything at once, Cola was started on a dextrose drip to support her system and received an enema to help relieve the impaction.
A Big Step Forward
By the next morning, Cola had successfully passed the obstruction (an important and encouraging milestone!). While she still isn’t very interested in food, this was a huge step in the right direction.
Dr. Splawn is going all-in on creativity, offering Cola a full food buffet to tempt her appetite and encourage her to start eating again.
One More Night (or Two) of TLC
Cola will remain at the hospital until her appetite improves and her bloodwork stabilizes. She’s being closely monitored and surrounded by a team who knows her well and is deeply invested in her recovery.
We’re hopeful, grateful, and keeping a close eye on our resilient girl. More updates on Cola soon!
