As part of our Foster to Heal program, we’re thrilled to partner with our friends at Turning Pointe Donkey Rescue in Michigan to save five incredible lives. These five donkeys—Scooby, Shaggy, Winifred, Daphne, and Velma—have already captured our hearts, and their journey to healing has just begun.
Rescued from the Auction
All five donkeys were rescued from a livestock auction, a place where their future was uncertain and their health was at risk. Upon their arrival, they were immediately taken to Weems & Stephens Equine Hospital for thorough exams by Dr. Westin and her skilled team.
Health Checks & Treatment
Dr. Westin carefully examined each donkey, listening to their chests, running bloodwork, and using ultrasounds to check for any signs of pneumonia—a common and potentially fatal condition in animals from auctions.
Thankfully, their ultrasounds looked normal! However, one donkey showed signs of a viral infection in her bloodwork. She’s now on a 10-day course of antibiotics, and we’ll recheck her progress soon.
Settling In
After a week at the ranch, the Scooby Crew is beginning to let their unique personalities shine. From Scooby’s curious nature to Velma’s cautious but sweet demeanor, these donkeys are already proving they’re as lovable as the mystery-solving characters they’re named after.
