Our sweet, shy Ruby recently gave our team a little scare. While trimming her hooves, we noticed something unusual—the skin between her declaws looked irritated, and inflamed.
A Mystery That Deepened
Dr. Avery started Ruby on antibiotics right away, but instead of improving, her feet seemed to worsen. Determined to get answers, Dr. Avery took a skin biopsy while our team continued to clean, treat, and wrap Ruby’s feet every single day to keep her comfortable.
The Diagnosis
When the results came in, we finally had clarity: a mix of bacterial infection and hypersensitivity—similar to an allergic reaction. Thanks to that information, Dr. Avery was able to start Ruby on the exact antibiotic she needed.
A Shy Soul with a Brave Heart
Ruby has always been one of our gentlest, most reserved sheep. She arrived at the Sanctuary in July 2021 after being rescued during a traffic stop, where five sheep were found hog-tied in the trunk of a Honda Civic. Since that day, we’ve spent years earning her trust—and now, she lets us care for her with love and patience as she continues to heal.
Healing, One Step at a Time
Each day, Ruby grows a little stronger and a little braver. Watching her recover reminds us how powerful trust and tenderness can be—and how every act of care brings our rescued residents one step closer to peace!
