Vet Visit for Cami & Honeydew

This week, two of our beloved sheep, Chamomile (Cami) and Honeydew, took a trip to Bonham Vet Clinic for exams with Dr. Avery. Honeydew had a lump on her udder that needed testing, and Cami has been dealing with persistent lameness in her back right leg. We are beyond grateful to have such an amazing vet team nearby!

A Sweet Surprise for Honeydew

Dr. Avery aspirated the mass on Honeydew’s udder, and it turned out to be… just milk! Sometimes, abscesses near the mammary glands can trap milk, creating a lump. We’ll keep a close watch to make sure it doesn’t get engorged and continues to resolve naturally.

Chamomile’s Lameness Exam

Dr. Avery performed a thorough lameness exam on Cami, flexing her leg and using a hoof tester—standard steps to pinpoint any soreness. The good news? While she’s still a little sore, there are no major problem areas, which means a serious issue like a fracture is highly unlikely!

The Road to Recovery

For now, Cami is on a treatment plan of stall rest, gentle hand-walking, and anti-inflammatory medication. Dr. Avery will check on her next week to monitor progress. If her soreness lingers, Dr. Metcalf will take X-rays to dig deeper and reassess.

We’re incredibly thankful for Dr. Avery and the entire Bonham Veterinary Clinic team. Their dedication ensures that our sheep, goats, and all Sanctuary animals get the best care possible! Stay tuned for updates on Cami and Honeydew as they continue their healing journeys!
