After a week at Texas A&M University Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital, Cami (aka Chamomile) is back home, and we now have a clear plan for her care.

Unusual Symptoms
Over the past few weeks, our sweet miniature Hampshire sheep showed unusual bleeding on her backside. She visited Dr. Avery multiple times for exams, bloodwork, and testing. Despite daily care from our team, she wasn’t showing improvement, which led to her specialist appointment at Texas A&M.
Diagnosis
Ultrasounds and a CT scan revealed a mass in her uterus. There are two possibilities: endometriosis or multiple small tumors spreading throughout her uterus. The ultimate treatment will be surgery to remove her uterus and ovaries.
Planning for Safety
Because anesthesia carries extra risk for sheep and goats, her doctors recommend waiting until she loses about 30 pounds before surgery. To reach her goal safely, she’s on a careful weight-loss plan, including measured hay portions using a fish scale.
Ongoing Care

While preparing for surgery, Cami is receiving:
-
Meloxicam for pain and inflammation
-
Antibiotics
-
Hormone treatment to help shorten her cycle
