Six years ago, Elliott came to our Sanctuary as a young show goat who was facing a very different future. The person who raised him found us, and Elliott arrived at the ranch alongside his two buddies, Pickles and Butters.
From the beginning, Elliott was an unforgettable character. He had the funniest little toothy grin, eyes that always looked full of curiosity, and a way of making you feel like he was quietly keeping tabs on everything happening around him.
He was the kind of goat you might find with a bird sitting on his back, snoozing beside another animal, or casually scratching against a donkey. Elliott was happy, friendly, and completely himself.
Knowing When It Was Time
After his heart episode and the days of care that followed, we hoped Elliott would continue to stabilize.
But his heart disease was more progressive than we realized. The difference in Elliott from when he first came home to the days that followed was dramatic. Eventually, even with assistance, he became too weak to stand comfortably.
And Elliott told us he was ready.
A Peaceful Goodbye
We surrounded Elliott with love, sharing our favorite memories and giving him the comfort he deserved.
We brought Butters in so he could say goodbye to his best friend. We gently lifted Elliott into a wagon and brought him outside, making sure his final moments were filled with everything he loved.
He even got a special treat for the ride—alfalfa hay, a normally forbidden treat.
Elliott passed peacefully and quietly, lying in the grass beneath the blue sky, surrounded by the people who loved him.
Forever Remembering Elliott
Elliott was never just a goat. He was a friend. A farm favorite. A little personality who brought so much joy simply by being himself.
We will miss his funny expressions, his watchful eyes, his gentle spirit, and all the little moments that made Elliott… Elliott. Thank you for choosing us, sweet boy.
Your heart may have been too big to bear, but it was big enough to leave a forever imprint on everyone who knew you.
