Every six months, Dr. Avery visits the Sanctuary for a full herd health check—making sure all of our sheep and goats are happy, healthy, and thriving.
It’s one of our favorite days, because it gives us a chance to take a closer look at everyone and stay ahead of any potential issues.
Routine Care, Big Impact
These wellness visits may seem routine, but they play a huge role in long-term health. From physical exams to diagnostic testing, every detail helps us ensure our animals are feeling their best.
During this visit, Dr. Avery also performed fecal testing across the herd, an important step in monitoring overall health and preventing parasites.
Arthritis Relief That’s Working
We’re seeing some amazing progress with a few of our residents!
Oliver and Pickles have been receiving monthly injections to help manage arthritis—and the results have been incredible. Their joints are more comfortable, and they’re moving around with so much more ease.
Because of this success, Karl has now started the same monthly treatment (joining Oliver, Pickles, Lolly, and Piper!).
Follow-Ups for Familiar Faces
This visit also included a few important rechecks:
-
Pickles had a follow-up on his skin condition, along with retesting his mineral levels
-
Pearl had her back checked for ongoing skin issues. She’ll continue with three doses of a steroid, along with daily cleaning and antifungal treatment
We’re hopeful these continued treatments will keep everyone on the right track.
Stitch’s Big Progress
One of the most exciting updates from the day?
Stitch is doing amazing.
He had a follow-up exam to check how he’s doing with his leg brace, which he wears during the day. Dr. Avery was extremely happy with his progress—his leg is staying straight, and he’s getting around beautifully.
That means the brace is doing exactly what it’s supposed to do!
Looking Ahead for Thumbelina
With Stitch’s success, we’re already thinking ahead. Now that Thumbelina is fully grown, we’ll be reaching out to the company that made Stitch’s brace to schedule a consultation for her.
Grateful for Great Care
Days like this remind us how important proactive, consistent care is for our Sanctuary family.
We’re so thankful for Dr. Avery and the expertise she brings—helping each and every one of our animals live their happiest, healthiest lives.
