Sweet Lolly recently had x-rays taken of his front legs so we could get a better look at how his arthritis has progressed—and help us find new ways to keep this big guy comfortable.
Because Lolly is such a large boy, transporting him to Dr. Avery’s clinic and positioning him on an x-ray table would have been stressful for everyone involved, especially Lolly. Instead, we asked Dr. Metcalf if he could perform the imaging during his next sanctuary visit.

Answers Behind the Discomfort
The x-rays helped explain the discomfort we’ve been seeing lately.
Lolly has arthritis in both knees, with his right knee showing more severe changes. He also has arthritis in the coffin joints of both medial toes, making movement even more challenging for him.
Supporting Our Big Guy Every Day
Lolly is already receiving medication to help manage pain and inflammation, along with a monthly injectable designed to support his joints and mobility.
Even with these treatments, we’re always looking for ways to improve his comfort and quality of life.
What Comes Next for Lolly
Now that we have a clearer picture of what’s happening inside those hardworking legs, Dr. Metcalf is developing a new plan for additional relief.
We’re exploring the possibility of injecting his knee joints to help ease discomfort—and even creating custom shoes to better support him as he walks!
Every Step Matters
Arthritis can make everyday movement difficult, especially for a big-bodied rescue like Lolly. But thanks to careful monitoring and a dedicated veterinary team, we’re hopeful these next steps will help him move more comfortably and enjoy more good days ahead.
